Vote for MAPS 3
March 1st, 2007 8:14 AM

I've got to give a lot of credit to our community's leadership in the early 90s'.  They made the decision to change the perception of Oklahoma City to something other than some cow-town in the middle of the plains.  So MAPS (Metro Area Projects) was born, and it's been great for Oklahoma City.

Even more credit is due to the voters.  The original MAPS program only passed by a few percentage points, but what a difference those few people have made.  Here's what they built:

The Ford Center
The Bricktown Ballpark
(I refuse to use corporate sponsor names for baseball parks.  It's un-American.)
A new downtown library
The Bricktown Canal
A trolley transit system
Renovations to the Civic Center
Renovations to the Cox Convention Center (The Myriad if you lived here before 2000)
Renovations to the State Fairgrounds

Now it's time for MAPS 3, and Mayor Cornett wants to know what you think.  If you go to www.MAPS3.org, you can fill out a short survey telling our leaders which community projects to take on next.  Politicians don't ask open ended questions very often.  I, for one, will take them up on the offer.
